We Invite volunteers World-wide, who can work with us in our organization in order to strengthen our Organization so that we may be able to serve the Communities in a better way. MACAO welcomes volunteers who are willing to support and give care to the HIV/AIDS patients, orphans and widows. Volunteers will also provide care and support for the people with HIV/AIDS, and will help us to develop our programs.

International volunteers

International Volunteers who will come, will work together with local volunteers to supervise and implement some programs which will be suitable for them, and visit different villages so that they may learn some of the African life style.

Volunteers who will come, will first of all learn Swahili language for one week, so that they may be acquainted with some of the Swahili words, which will help them when they are working in some Tanzanian villages. Some of the International volunteers will be taught how to educate the communities about HIV/AIDS, while others will design their own projects based on their skills and interest. They may build orphanages and schools, paint buildings, and conduct other activities which will contribute to the development of the communities. International Volunteers will have all the freedom to choose any type of work they are able to do. They will not be forced to do a job which they are not able. .

Local Volunteers

Local volunteers will help widows cope with raising children without a monthly income and will be involved with organizing weekly home care clinic at the local hospital. They may work together with international volunteers to bring education to the community as well.

Benefits of Volunteering with Macao

MACAO is working in Northern Tanzania. All volunteers will first come to our Headquarters in Arusha for orientation. Following orientation, volunteers will work either based from Arusha town or in Loliondo. To reach Loliondo volunteers will pass through three National Parks which are Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro and Serengeti (which have got a lot of species and many attractive animals in the whole continent of Africa. Volunteers will have the opportunity to see numerous wild animals such as giraffes, lions, cheetahs and elephants in these National Parks.

Tanzania is an incredibly beautiful country and we would like our volunteers to experience all that our country has to offer. In Ngorongoro there are several mountains such as Oldonyo Lengai which means “The Mountain of God” in the Masaai language. This is an active volcanic mountain and this mountain is the source of many earthquakes in the Arusha region. The Masaai believe that the Oldonyo Lengai Mountain is God and they worship and pray to the mountain for food, money, etc. The mountain can be climbed only at night because it is too hot to climb during the day.

Volunteers can also visit other attractions such as Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru and other places they would like to visit in Tanzania.

Program schedule

Macao volunteer programs are flexible to your needs. You may come at any time, as long as we have commmunicated first. We encourage volunteers to stay for at least one month or more, but volunteers may come for any length of time. We can negotiate regarding a long-term stay. Many volunteers combine their stay with tourism elsewhere in East Africa. No matter how long you decide to volunteer, you will have a remarkable experience and you will have helped Macao to realize its vision.

Positions are of a "paying volunteer" nature; fees are determined by the length of the stay. The program fee covers the following services:

Please note that airfare, transportation to Arusha, and expenses incurred during the volunteer's travels during free time are not included.

In addition to covering the costs of the volunteer program, Macao uses the money raised from volunteer fees to cover other project costs to serve people in need. We encourage volunteers to raise funds through their community, friends, family, place of work and local religious establishments. All volunteers who receive the letter of acceptance to the Macao organization, should send an advance fee of $300, to secure their stay in Arusha, Tanzania.

To apply to the volunteer program, applicants must submit the form found here. Please download the word document, fill it out and email it to macaotz@yahoo.com. After you apply, we will confirm that the form was received and then notify you within two weeks whether you have been accepted. When you submit your travel details to us, we will consider you confirmed and make arrangements to welcome you to Arusha town. We request a deposit in advance of $300.
